Overcoming Pride - Amazon's Book Review

How to overcome pride? Do you live with it every day? Do you allow pride to keep you from living a humble life, holding others accountable, loving unconditionally, and loving your neighbors and fellow beings? If you do, then we must humbly ask you: Are you taking time to honor and praise God in all things?

Pride affects almost every single one of us, and in fact, it dwells deeply within us. Even as children, we are always prideful, wanting to be just like everyone else. As long as everyone is equal, then pride is perfectly fine. However, as time goes by, as Christians, we begin to notice that as Christians we begin to have a different view of ourselves than our non-Christian brothers and sisters.

The first step for anyone wanting to become a Christian is to research the Bible and study it. If you have not yet read the Bible, start reading it today. We have listed some of the top books on the subject below in alphabetical order. In addition to these works, there are other helpful Bible studies that you can easily find on-line. They contain insightful biblical verses pertaining to the topic of overcoming pride in the Word of God. As an extra bonus, the Bible verses are in order of the alphabetical position of each book, making it easy to learn what the author has written.

1. Uncover the Hidden Land of Pride - Paul Burroughs

This book is a great primer on how to defeat pride. Paul Burroughs lays out how to use the Bible to combat pride. He reveals how to overcome pride by going back to the root cause of your pride. By discovering where your pride comes from you will be able to put a stop to it before it even begins. Through this program you will also discover how to live a confident life filled with hope and humility.

The second book on the subject of how to overcome pride is by a man who is very familiar with what our culture is telling us is considered "humility". If we want to be successful in life, it is essential that we become humble. Dr. Sonny hereafter explains how he has overcome his personal pride to become humble and strong. He is a strong person that displays humility and love to those who need it most.

The third and final book on the subject of how to overcome pride...read this! is written by a reverend who struggled with the same issues that most of us struggle with...namely being self-conscious and self-pitying. In his book he shares how he was able to overcome those issues and became the person he is today. Through the daily devotions he attended and the daily walk he participated in...drilled him into becoming the person he wants to be.

He reveals how many people in our society are seeking someone to live up to their image of a perfect Christian. What many people don't understand is that most of them are not living humble lives. They are seeking others to imitate because they feel that their lifestyle does not measure up to what others have. Through this program you will also discover how to be humble and still display the strength that is required to lead others and stand firm against those who take advantage of others.

It is important to note that this program does not deal with forgiveness. I find that most people struggle with accepting that they have wronged someone and then move onto the next person they will forgive. It is important to note that not all that is wrong in this world are bad...rather many people are doing wrong but do not realize that they are doing so. The author maintains that it is more important to let go of pride and humility and to forgive others than to hold on to pride and foolishness.

What he teaches in these books is simple, but powerful. The scripture he chooses to focus on is from Proverbs. The book starts out simply with verses that tell us what not to do. However, as we read through each chapter the author then shows us what we can do...and then asks us to do even more. Because the writer understands how to build strong characters, we are taught that we should pray and not sweat our troubles. We are also exhorted to let go of our pride and proverbs tell us to be patient.

Because it is important for us to forgive those who disrespect us we will be more likely to do so in return. Because the Bible encourages us to be patient, it does not suggest that we should take this to heart and forget our pride. Rather, it encourages us to be humble and forgive those who disrespect us. If you carry the Amazon rating for these books, it will be helpful to you in your quest to be humble and forgive those who disrespect you.
